HaloXR II

Scene capture for law enforcement, on iPhone. Prototype
A room scanned with HaloXR II, shown as a textured 3D model.

HaloXR II turns an iPhone into a scene capture system. Officers record a crime or collision scene as a measured, photo-textured 3D model in minutes, and every scan is processed on the iPhone itself, or at full resolution on a computer inside the department.

Each scan becomes a complete evidence package: one offline file with the 3D scene, photos, a CR-3 base plate and a signature from the device, ready to open on a department computer.

Triaxis Depth Engine

The engine that turns a LiDAR scan into a measured 3D model. In development

Triaxis is the 3D reconstruction engine inside HaloXR II. It turns a walk-through LiDAR scan from an iPhone into a textured, measurable 3D model: on the iPhone in under a minute, or at full resolution on a computer inside the department.

It cleans the raw scan, chooses the best photo for every surface, balances their exposure and paints them onto the model, with every file signed and logged from the first frame for the chain of custody.

Blackjack

Debug an iPhone from a Mac, through its Lightning port. Prototype

Blackjack plugs into an iPhone or iPad through its Lightning port and gives a Mac direct access to the chip inside. Halt and step the processor, read and write memory, follow the serial console and move the device between recovery and DFU, all from one USB-C cable. It is an alternative to Kanzi and Koba, the debug probes Apple uses internally.

It works with the debugging tools you already use. To the Mac, Blackjack is a standard debug probe.

GTA V on Apple Silicon

A Windows game engine, running natively on the Mac and iPhone. Research
Game and engine Compiled for ARM64 Win32 layer Native implementation Direct3D 11 The engine's own renderer DXMT Direct3D on Metal Apple silicon Mac and iPhone

This project studies how a large Windows game engine can run natively on Apple silicon without Wine or Rosetta. The engine is compiled for ARM64 from one source tree, as an app for the Mac and for iPhone. A native implementation of the required Win32 interfaces takes the place of Windows, and DXMT translates Direct3D 11 to Metal.

Rosetta

Our own control for the ProtoTRAK SMX knee mill. In development
Rosetta running a program: the X, Y and Z position on the left and the tool path drawn live on the right.

Rosetta is control software for the ProtoTRAK SMX, written from the ground up. It runs on the machine’s own control computer and speaks directly to its servo board, so the motors, drives and wiring stay exactly as they are.

It runs ProtoTRAK programs and standard G-code, shows the tool path as it cuts, and adds probing cycles the original control never had.

Head Unit Emulator

A car’s infotainment system, running on a Mac. Research
The iDrive 6 home screen, with Media, Navigation and My Vehicle tiles, rendered by the head unit's own software inside the emulator.

An emulator for BMW’s NBT Evo head unit, the iDrive 6 system in cars from 2016 on. It recreates the unit’s circuit board in software and boots the unit’s own operating system and applications, so its software can be studied and tested on a desk, without the car.

Spectre

The assistant from Handbook, as an app of its own. In development

Spectre already answers questions inside Handbook. On its own, it becomes an assistant for everything around the work: a voice to think out loud with, a researcher for the questions that take an afternoon, and a memory that stays in your hands.

Talk it through

Hold a conversation by voice, hands free, and pick it up later in text.

Research in depth

Ask a hard question and Spectre reads widely, then comes back with an answer and its sources.

Tasks for later

Schedule a task to run tomorrow or every week, and the result is waiting when it is done.

Sees what you see

Show it a photo of a part, a nameplate or a drawing, and ask about it.

Memory you control

Decide what Spectre remembers about you. Review it, change it or clear it at any time.

Private by design

Conversations are encrypted on your iPhone before they sync, and Spectre runs on servers Deoxy Labs owns.
